A Condolence letter from the Oromo Community of Minnesota

With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we, the Oromo community of Minnesota, extend our deepest condolences on the passing of Obbo Mama Argo. His loss has left an irreplaceable void in our community and in the hearts of all who knew him. Obbo Mama was more than a community member—he was a pillar of strength, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to the Oromo people.

For over forty years, Obbo Mama devoted his life to building the Oromo community in North America, bringing our refugees together, helping those in need, and establishing institutions that would serve our people for generations. His instrumental role in founding the Seattle Oromo Community Association, OSFNA (Oromo Sports Federation in North America), supporting the Oromo Liberation Front, playing pivotal role in founding of OMN and numerous other Oromo organizations cannot be overstated. Through his tireless efforts, he created spaces where our culture, language, and identity could flourish in the diaspora.

Today, we have lost a patriot whose dedication never wavered, an elder who never sought personal gain from his service to the people, and a compassionate soul who touched countless lives. His legacy of service, sacrifice, and steadfast commitment to Oromummaa will continue to inspire and guide us. Though he has left us, the institutions he built, the values he championed, and the countless lives he touched will ensure that his spirit lives on in our community.

During this difficult time, the entire Oromo community of Minnesota stands in solidarity with the family of Obbo Mama Argo, his wife Aadde Mashu, and their children. Your grief is our grief, and your loss is felt deeply by all of us. Please know that you are not alone—our community is here to support you in any way needed.

May the Almighty God unite Obbo Mama in paradise with the martyrs who preceded him in the struggle. May God grant his family strength and patience. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

With deepest sympathy and respect,

Oromo Community of Minnesota
